Results of the competition of the Western Pomeranian Voivodeship for doctoral students at the University of Szczecin

The Jury presents the results of the competition of the Marshal’s Office of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship for doctoral students at the University of Szczecin for scientific achievements in the field of social sustainability, in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair for Social Sustainability.

In this year’s edition 9 applications were submitted. All the applications evaluated by the Jury were of a high level of merit. All the applications sent in response to the competition addressed the topic of sustainable development, but only few – the social sustainability.

As a result of the collective decision, the Jury decided to award two applicants:

– Ewa Balanicka, M.A., for a series of articles on accessible architecture, including analyses of urban and architectural design considering neuropsychological parameters. The Jury emphasized the social importance of universal design, while appreciating the interdisciplinary nature of the author’s research.

– Aleksandra Werner, M.A., Tourism of People with Disabilities in the Light of Own Research, Szczecin 2023 (monograph). The Jury emphasized that the monograph submitted for the competition directly addresses the issue of social sustainability, understood in the work as modeling social services for excluded groups. The author presented the results of her own research on the design of tourist services with a view to accessibility for people with mobility disabilities of the material base and tourist offer in Szczecin.

The award ceremony will be held in January 2024. Congratulations to the winners, and we encourage other participants to apply in future editions!
